Artist Mary Meyer with The Leaf Connection Installation at Phoenix's Desert Botanical Garden.

Mary Meyer is a sculptor and mixed-media artist whose work explores the connections between people and the natural world. Through installations and sculptural forms inspired by seeds, leaves, and plant systems, she creates work that reflects the interconnectedness of living things and our place within the larger ecosystem. Originally trained as a stone carver, Meyer works with clay, wood, and found objects, embracing hands-on processes that echo the rhythms of growth and change found in nature.

Having lived in Arizona for over three decades, Meyer’s practice is deeply informed by the region’s distinctive landscape and biodiversity. She received her BFA in Sculpture from Arizona State University, focusing on foundry casting and metalworking, and later earned her MFA from the University of Arizona, where she was awarded the MFA Fellowship for her large-scale mixed-media installations.

Her work has been exhibited at institutions across the Southwest, including the Phoenix Art Museum, Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, and Tucson Museum of Art, and is held in public collections such as the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Museum, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, and Mesa Arts Center.

Recent projects include The Leaf Connection, a community-engaged installation at the Desert Botanical Garden (2024–2025), and a forthcoming terrazzo floor commission for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, scheduled for 2027.

Meyer lives in Gold Canyon and maintains a studio at the historic Cattle Track Arts Compound, where her practice continues to evolve in dialogue with the Arizona landscape.
